This was our fourth work after we began Mmiri as a project. For quite a long time, we considered this one of our signature works. Working with water always requires taking a large number of shots until we capture the right one—or are able to combine several images into a perfect composition. The randomness and often very unexpected results make creating such images a very satisfying process.
Behind the scenes.
The idea
We developed the idea for this work just after discussing one of our favourite animated movies of our childhood: FernGully: The Last Rainforest. This is a very beautiful story that draws a parallel between the eternal confrontation of good and evil and the theme of environmental protection.
In the movie, there is a beautiful scene in which the two main characters, Crysta and Zak, are running through a mysterious field covered with numerous pools filled with dark water. With each step, when their feet touch the water, a circle of light expands across the surface until the whole field is illuminated. This scene left magical memories from our childhood, and many years later, after revisiting the movie, it became the inspiration for this picture as well as for several ideas that are still waiting to be materialised.
Materials.
Paper.
For paper-based prints, we use our favorite paper from the most renowned German manufacturer: Hanemühe Photo Rag. This robust paper features a pronounced texture while still reproducing even the finest details.
Frame.
We use only high-quality, German-made frames in a neutral wooden tone.
Aluminium.
Aluminium is our preferred material for its high-quality reproduction, attractive aesthetics, and practicality. Best of all, no frame is needed—everything for mounting is included, resulting in an elegant, minimalist solution.
