This work draws inspiration from classical still life paintings while introducing contemporary elements. The composition is structured around two primary contrasting elements: organic, curvilinear forms against geometric rigidity, and mass versus weightlessness. The oval contours of the vase and flowers create a fluid interplay with the stark, horizontal plane of the table surface. Meanwhile, the substantial presence of the weighty vase stands in opposition to the ephemeral soap bubbles floating above it.
Behind the scenes.
The idea
We wanted to create something that would remind of a classic still-life painting, though with a bit of a modern touch. Here we have all the common components: a vase standing on the table, flowers... and some soap bubbles.
Making
We began working on the image after finding the perfect vase in a store not far from our home. The flowers and soap bubbles were the perfect additions to it. The first challenge was to shape the stem of the flower into a nearly perfect round form, while the second was to capture all the soap bubbles in the right position.
Materials.
Paper.
For paper-based prints, we use our favorite paper from the most renowned German manufacturer: Hanemühe Photo Rag. This robust paper features a pronounced texture while still reproducing even the finest details.
Frame.
We use only high-quality, German-made frames in a neutral wooden tone.
Aluminium.
Aluminium is our preferred material for its high-quality reproduction, attractive aesthetics, and practicality. Best of all, no frame is needed—everything for mounting is included, resulting in an elegant, minimalist solution.
